Excelsior and Den Haag finished 1-1 after Roland Alberg scored the tying goal in the 49th minute for Excelsior, which went behind on a first-half own goal from Edwin de Graaf.

Venlo moved to within three points of safety after securing a 4-1 win at De Graafschap as the visitors scored four goals in the second half after falling behind 1-0 at the break to a Rydell Poepon goal.

Saturday's other match saw Heracles claim a 2-1 win over Roda after going a goal down at halftime.

Sanharib Malki put Roda in front but Everton equalized midway through the second half before Pawel Kieszek's red card in the 75th minute was followed by a successful penalty kick from Willy Overtoom to win the match for Heracles.
